The American Red Cross cooperates with other organizations to meet the relief needs of communities. In preparing for and responding to disasters, the Red Cross of Orange County works with government agencies at all levels, other voluntary and nonprofit agencies, business and labor, individuals and small groups.
From single-family house fires to large-scale disasters such as the Santiago Fire, the Orange County Chapter responds to approximately 150 incidents annually. Red Cross staff and volunteers are ready to help 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Disaster Assistance
In Orange County, Red Cross volunteers respond to disasters large and small. Most typically for our community, these are home and apartment fires, but the Red Cross will also respond to wildfires, earthquakes, transportation accidents, hazmat incidents, community emergencies and more.Twenty-four hours a day, 365 days a year, our volunteers ensure that those displaced by disasters have the items needed to meet their immediate disaster-caused needs. This assistance may include:- Shelter – Food – Clothing, shoes, coat replacement – Toiletry items – Medical replacement (prescriptions, glasses, dentures, etc) – Mental health support – Referrals to other community organizations who can assist with other needs – Information to help with planning long-term recovery
All Red Cross disaster assistance is free, made possible by voluntary donations of time and money from the American people.
